Pawthereum’s Donations Recap

Big Cheers to the Entire Pawthereum Community

This is a huge milestone for the Pawthereum project! Helping and advocating for animals in need is the core of our mission. So first we want to say thank you and congratulations to everyone that has believed in and supported this project from the early days to today and far into the future. We’ve made it, and this is only the beginning.

Today we’d like to spend a little time talking about the shelters we proposed for this round of donations, explaining who they are and what they do. They operate in different locations, with different focuses, but they all work extremely hard to help our furry friends, and donations like ours help them to achieve their missions.

Best Friends Animal Society, based in Utah with additional locations in other states

35 years ago, in the middle of the Utah desert, a small group of friends created a sanctuary for abandoned and abused animals. From a tiny start, the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab is now the largest no-kill animal shelter in the entire world. On any given day they house over 1,600 animals.

Best Friends has tirelessly advocated for the use of no-kill principles and has changed animal shelter practices across the USA drastically over time. Beyond Utah, they now have locations in Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Houston, Arkansas, Florida, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. All dedicated to the same original mission: creating no-kill animal sanctuaries across the USA.

They are one of the only shelters in the country (in addition to Sterling, below) that publishes their public crypto wallet addresses online, so that anyone can donate any ERC-20 coin, like $PAWTH, to help them out.

With our donation of 600,000 $PAWTH, we’re happy to call Pawthereum official supporters of Best Friends and their no-kill mission. If you’d like to donate further, please visit their crypto donation page here.

Sterling Animal Shelter in Massachusetts

Another no-kill shelter, most of you already are familiar with Sterling Animal Shelter, the recipient of Grumpy’s 39 ETH donation earlier in the year that helped launch our predecessor project into the national spotlight.

Started in 1988, Sterling has worked for over 30 years to help animals in central Massachusetts, with no restrictions on time stayed or age. Their veterinary clinic on-site helps over 3,000 animals per year, and they are supported entirely by donations like ours and fees for service.

We’re proud to call Sterling Animal Shelter our first official Pawthereum shelter partner, and we plan to work together on some projects in the future. They also post their Ethereum wallet address online, and you can see about sending further donations to them here.

Wright-Way Rescue in Illinois

Wright-Way Rescue is another no-kill shelter with a specific focus on helping animals in need in rural communities across America. These are often remote places without any active shelters close by.

Started in 2003, they’ve made huge strides to help as many of these animals as possible. In 2019 they traveled over 110,000 miles to help save over 5,000 animals in need, and they’ve rehomed over 50,000 total animals since being founded. Volunteers drive over 700 miles a week (combined) to rescue and bring abandoned animals from far away to Wright-Way’s locations in Illinois.

If you’d like to help Wright-Way Rescue continue on their mission, they accept crypto donations here.

Four Paws International

Four Paws International is our only donation partner based primarily outside of the United States for this donation round. Since 1988 they’ve been working to rescue animals of all kinds from inhumane conditions as well as from disaster and conflict zones.

They operate around the world, with offices in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Kosovo, the Netherlands, Switzerland, South Africa, Thailand, Ukraine, the UK, the USA, and Vietnam as well as sanctuaries for rescued animals in eleven countries.

With our donation, we can now officially say that, in addition to cats and dogs, Pawthereum has helped rescue and care for bears, apes, chimpanzees, gorillas, lions, tigers, leopards, owls, hedgehogs, and more.

If you would like to help out Four Paws more, you can donate crypto here.

Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco, CA

We were pleased to include Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in our donation because of their specific mission: to help find homes for older dogs that are adoptable and to offer end-of-life care for those that cannot.

Started in 2007, Muttville was the first cage-free facility in the entire nation. Over the years they’ve helped rescue over 9,000 dogs. Their services include foster programs, hospice programs, and an on-site veterinary suite. They are currently fundraising to open their “forever home,” a new permanent headquarters in San Francisco.

Second Chance Rescue in New York City

Second Chance Rescue takes a different approach from the other organizations on our donation list. Instead of operating a shelter, they’ve developed a large network of volunteers, donors, and medical teams in order to work with shelters across New York City to help speed up adoptions, provide medical care so animals can stay in their current homes, rehab critically injured animals, and overall reduce the number of animals on shelter kill lists in the city.

Even without a shelter of their own, they frequently help run in-person adoption drives and help facilitate more adoptions and fostering through their website. In a city like NYC, this extra assistance to the dozens of shelters strained by the large number of abandoned, stray, and injured animals each day is huge.
